~ Saint Raymond Guild
The purpose
of St. Raymond's Guild is to promote devotion to St. Raymond Nonnatus,
especially among Catholic parents, because he is the particular patron
of Christian families and is popularly prayed to by expectant mothers.
Members of the guild,
by their donations, also help educate for the priesthood and brotherhood
young members of the Order of the BVM of Mercy, commonly called Mercedarian
Friars, to which St. Raymond belonged.
Because they are
benefactors of the Order, all guild members share in the merits of the
prayers and good works of all the members of the Mercedarian Order spread
throughout many parts of the world.
Every guild member
may obtain, upon request, a candle and bottle of water which have been
blessed in honor of St. Raymond Nonnatus according to the Mercedarian
Ritual. The blessed candle and water may be used by expectant mothers
throughout their pregnancy and in their prayerful preparation for the
birth of their child. Prayer offered through the intercession of St.
Raymond is meant to support the mother for a safe delivery and a loving
acceptance of the child God has blessed her with.
In addition to the
blessed water and candles the guild also has a book of prayers and devotions
to St. Raymond. This book, called Magnificat, contains prayers for Christian
families, for expectant mothers, for safe delivery, prayers in thanksgiving,
as well as prayers for the unborn.
